Vakera is a feared woman, a tyrant even to her own family, whose ascension to the head of the powerful Dumarl family has been attributed to her poisoning her former husband Maten. She has no qualms with dealing with problems harshly, her power enforced by the Kaliph, the Dumarl Family Guard, led by her half-brother Atarin.
She is completely devoid of emotion save where her daughter is concerned, having personally executed her only son for treason when he began to court the daughter of the Szat Family, a competing Noble house.
Her motives seem obvious, power, wealth and total control over her domain. Two other noble families, the Suroth and Varelin , have lost all their lands at the insistence of the Kaliph, being massacred at their hands, and their lands captured.
Because of the size of the Dumarl Army, and the efficiency of the Kaliph, none of the other Noble families interfered save Szat and Dushambe, both of which were unable to bring troops to aid the fallen because of Dumarl Allies refusing them access through their lands to the warzone.
Since that time Vakera has established total dominance in almost all Kael Council affairs, the Grand Councillor on many occasions being threatened to follow her commands.
That was until Melissande arrived from the far south, and took the reigns of her house at the Behest of her mother. Since that time the Grand Councillor has become more resilient to Vakera’s proddings and has on several occasions overruled her.
This has led Vakera and Melissande to be locked in a semi-cold war, their forces clashing on several occasions, always ending in a truce negotiated by the Grand Councillor.
Vakera has used the recent arrival of the Iron Watch and the undead to her benefit , seizing abandoned lands from her neighbors, and her army enforcing a cruel military law over all the territory they travel through.
